I have been freelancing as a graphic designer for many years.
After studying and graduating with a Diploma in Graphic Design from Cape Technikon, Cape Town, South Africa, I started my first job at a popular, outdoor clothing retail outlet, Cape Union Mart. I was responsible for their retail advertising and public relations. Needless to say, I learnt a lot about deadlines here.
After a few years, I moved on to work for a supplier of desktop publishing solutions, Desktop Technologies, where I trained clients in Apple Mac design programmes. This was an exciting time as it was the beginning of a new era – the desktop publishing revolution had arrived! (Yes, it was a while back!)
I bought my first Mac during this period and started moonlighting (with my bosses’ approval, of course) and after a couple of years, I took the leap and became a full-time freelancer. And … I’ve never looked back.
